College, P.III

Well, nonverbal communication was a no go. As was Mandarin level 2. Not enough people signed up for school to fund the classes. Aikido has been fun, and Poetry class has been forcing me to write more often, fortunately =). It turns out East Asian history will only cover Japan and China, since it's only one class a week, and we don't have enough time to cover other nations like Corea, Vietnam, Thailand, etc. Overall it's been fun though. Hard and all, but I've been doing okay(I had to memorize a map of chinese provinces. I scored 92/93 points on it). In place on nonverbal communication I'm taking environmental ethics, which has gotten fairly interesting so far.

I won't be taking the summer term, since all the good teachers take summer off, and leave only the boring classes =/ But I plan on taking Writing 245(higher level poetry class), a fiction class, maybe a history class if they split up East Asia history into China and Japan(thats what they're talking about doing), another philosophy class(those things are addicting), Aikido level 2, and I'm debating learning either Corean, Mandarin 2(if I'm lucky), or Tagalog.

College, P. II

Well, it's been a while. Figured I may as well update this with something. This term I took a basic writing class, History of India(A class which I'm currently cramming all that I can for the final), Mandarin Chinese, World Religions, and Philosophy of Ethics. All in all, it was pretty fun, but the classes were fairly difficult. I'm taking next term easier, with Chinese II, Aikido, History of East Asia, a Creative Writing class to try and get back in my groove, and non-verbal communication.

College

Finally, out of high school. At least, thats what I thought as I came to my college. Turns out I test into "Basic algebra"(Pre algebra - WTF?!) and Reading 115(about as effective a class as a thesaurus. Seriously. I'm so serious I'm adding periods in my parenthesis.). I know most of the content that we're learning in Japanese 201(their highest leveled Japanese class, and it marks my 6th year of study). On top of that, they have a max of 19 possible credit hours you can take any given term. I was going to take Russian, but it would've put me at 20 credit hours. So you may be wondering if this is as much a rant as it is a wall of text? There's some good news.
No, I didn't save anything on car insurance, I don't even have a car. The good news is that my writing class is fun. While it is a standard writing class, It still gives me more writing practice, meaning (hopefully) you'll all be hearing more from me. especially since I only have classes 2 days of the week.

Triumphant return

Well that trip was nicer than I expected. Japan isn't as xenophobic as people make it out to be. I think I might go on this trip again next year, but I'll be bringing more money. I brought 560$ worth of yen, and I came back with 3.50$ worth. If anyone interested in Japan at all gets the chance to do a homestay there, I recommend it. Watch out for the jet lag though.

Two-week trip

Fri Jun 13, 2008, 4:08 PM
Well everyone, I'll be going on a two-week trip to Japan hosted by the Oregon inter-cultural association with about 20 or so other people, so expect even less things from me. I leave in three days and will be there for, of course, two weeks, returning on the 3rd of July. I'll try and come back with some writing, but the schedule is packed. Have a great start to your summer everyone!
